ISAF Sailing World Championships

The Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships will be held between Saturday 3rd and Sunday 18th of December, 2011.

The 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships will be the key qualification event for the 2012 London Olympic Games and showcases Perth and Western Australia as a premier international sailing location. In 2007, it was announced that Perth was the successful bidder to host the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships – the biggest sailing event to be held in Perth since the 1987 America’s Cup Defence. The championships are held every four years with the previous event having been held in Cascais, Portugal, in 2007.

THE DREAM BEGINS IN PERTH

World Champions for each of the 10 Olympic sailing events will be determined. Seventy five per cent of all nations to participate at the 2012 London Olympic Games Sailing Competition will be decided at Perth 2011. The eyes of the world of competitive sailing will be fixed on Perth like never before. The two-week Regatta will be held at Fremantle between Bathers Bay, Challenger Harbour and Success Harbour and will attract 1,400 international competitors, 5,000 official personnel, and hundreds of thousands of visitors to Western Australia. Perth is renowned for being one of the windiest cities in the world, so expect fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping racing on the courses. Spectators will feel the excitement and be blown away as competitors bring the exhilarating action in very close to the shore.

The International Sailing Federation (ISAF), the governing body for the sport of sailing, has contracted with Faircount Australia to publish the official program for the 2011 event in Perth. The program will be on sale at the event as well as nationally, via newsstands across Australia.
