The Civil Right Act of 1964 turns 50 on July 2nd 2014 and its impact on the legal, education, economic and social systems in the United States has touched us all. In celebration of this momentous law The King Center and family of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has partnered with renowned publisher Faircount Media Group in the production of a very special commemorative publication marking this historic occasion. A yearlong series of events is planned nationally to celebrate the occasion, the US Mint is issuing a special commemorative coin, film festivals, educational programs, speeches and more. The publication is an opportunity for rededication. The 50th anniversary of a watershed year in the Civil Rights Movement is an opportunity to remember a transformative period in our history and rededicate ourselves to the unfinished work of equality. Through imagery and editorial will we look into many people whose lives have been profoundly changed by the impact of the evolution of the Civil Right Act and as a reminder that citizens and leaders can work miracles together, despite every hardship and against great odds.
